08-10-11 GIFFORD PINCHOT : Dick, Mike and I gad a great 85 mile ride in the cold. It started with a KTM that wouldn't start and ended with a KTM running out of gas. :-) There was up to 2" of snow in spots and most of the trail in the shade was frozen. We crossed a creek over a ice covered wooden plank; rode up to what feels like the top of the world, saw some mountain goats and even a few hikers along the trail. It was a great way to spend a Saturday.

08-09-14 GIFFORD PINCHOT : Oh boy our ride was interesting, we ended up doing 117 miles. Dick had an off trail experience first thing on the Snyder pasture (80a), that took 25 minutes to drag back up to the trail. We ran out the Boundary (1) to Council Lake and did the High lakes (116) Green mountain (110) then hit Valley trail (270) to Tongue mountain (294) where we found some guys leaving for the day and bummed some gas, we knew we would be close with what we packed but the extra insurance was nice. Dick put in a half gallon and refilled his quart gasteen and I dumped the half gallon or so that was left in my bike. From Tongue mountain (294) we dropped down the High bridge (293) and took the 29 road to the bottom of Rough trail (283) where we found Dick had a flat rear tire. We pulled it apart an found that Dick also had dried out glue in his patch kit while I had no glue at all. He had to ride the last 25 miles on a flat Michelin trials tire. The 29 road to the Boundary trail (1) to Craggy peak trail (3) to the Wright meadows trail (80) across the makeshift bridge and back to the truck. Dick hit reserve about 3 miles from the truck, I never did. I am sure his flat tire didn't help fuel economy though.
